In European wholesale markets, prices for vegetables fell sharply

Warming has provoked quite a sharp fall in prices for vegetables in Europe. Recall that until the last decade of February, most types of vegetable products in European markets were offered at fairly high prices due to abnormally cold weather conditions. However, the growth in supply volumes became palpable at the end of last month, and as of the beginning of March, prices for fresh vegetables fell below last year's level.

Thus, for today, imported eggplants are offered at a price of 0.91-1.37 €/kg, which is 20% cheaper than the same day a year earlier. The wholesale price of cauliflower for the last week of February fell to 0.81-0.82 €/kg, so today this offer is 15% cheaper than a year ago. Prices for sweet pepper: the price of it fell by 2.2-2.5 €/kg. The fall in prices also affected imported tomatoes, which are currently offered at a price of 1.2-1.4 €/kg, that is 30% cheaper than at the same date last year.

At the same time, the prices for imported cucumbers are still relatively high. Now these products are offered at 1.95-2.29 €/kg, which is 40% more expensive than a year ago.

It should also be noted that the first lots of greenhouse cucumbers and tomatoes have already appeared in the markets, which are currently sold at a price of 1.7-2.0 €/kg and 3.9-4.1 €/kg, respectively. Compared with the figures for 2016, prices for this product have increased by almost 20%.The wholesale prices for Iceberg salad also differ markedly from last year. Today, in the wholesale markets of Europe, it is offered at 1.03-1.14 €/kg, that is, as much as 80% more expensive than a year ago. However, we recall that even in the first half of February the difference between last year's price level for this product and the ones recorded a month ago was more than 200%.Prices for radishes, which are traditionally associated with spring, almost did not change: today it is sold at a price of 0.27-0.34 €/kg.

Vegetables of the harvest last year fell by almost 50%. Thus, the prices for onions and cabbage today are formed in the range of 0.06-0.13 €/kg, and carrots are offered at a price of 0.13-0.18 €/kg.
