The world market of nuts and seeds as of today: an overview

Brazilian nut

Due to expectations that the new crop in South America will be 30% less than last year, the prices for Brazil nuts are growing. There are practically no offers, so the demand is very high.

Walnuts

In California, 80% of walnuts are sold, and even local varieties become scarce. Prices are constantly growing, and a new harvest of walnuts wait for at least 8 more months. Experts believe that in the months remaining until the end of the season, prices for walnuts will be determined by the secondary market.

In Chile, a record harvest of walnuts is expected - 90 thousand tons. The first indicators of prices for walnuts for manual cleaning are still higher than the California prices - 13.8 USD/kg, but at the same level, the prices of opening were in Chile and last year.

Cashew

High prices for cashew nuts will not change until the end of March when a new crop from Vietnam will appear on the market. Producers in this country work for RCN from Tanzania, which comes in intermittently. European stocks of cashew nuts are very small, and the available goods are of very low quality. Accordingly, strong demand from Europe supports high prices.

Macadamia

In South Africa and Malawi this year, the production of macadamia nuts is expected to increase compared to the previous year. A few years ago the plantations of the macadamia were significantly increased, and this year they will bring the first harvest. And this is very timely since a great demand for macadamia in the shell is observed by China, Japan, and some other Asian countries.

Almond

In comparison with the cashew and pecan, the almond market is much more stable due to the stable supply and slightly lower demand. In California, a lot of rain fell, and farmers expect a good new crop.

Hazelnut

Hazel producers tried to increase prices without exposing nuts to the market, and force the government to introduce price regulators, but, alas, this strategy failed. The market remains sluggish; the shelled hazelnut comes at a price of 2.87 USD/kg, which is much lower than the expectations of farmers. And despite the fact that farmers are dissatisfied with market prices, they cannot endlessly keep nuts in warehouses, especially since some still have a hazelnuts crop of 2015.

Sunflower seeds

The supply of seeds clearly exceeds demand, which pushes prices down. If prices for sunflower seeds decline relative to the current level - 0.68-0.69 USD/kg, - farmers will start to hold stocks
