Two world-renowned food suppliers found themselves at the core of the scandal

Two giants of the FMCG sphere, having sales markets in most countries of the modern world, Coca-Cola and PepsiCo appeared not in the most pleasant situation. Bulk foods experts say that this case may undermine their reputation in the food business.

Scientists of one of the American universities have convicted manufacturers and exporters of carbonated drinks Coca-Cola and PepsiCo in the fact that they for the last 5 years they have been paying money to nearly 100 health care organizations in the United States. Such actions impeded the process of reducing American consumption of sweet drinks and have contributed to the spread of obesity. Scientists said that the health care structures became unwitting accomplices in the PR strategies of the companies aimed at improving the sales, profits of manufacturers, thereby undermining the health of the country's inhabitants.

According to general estimates, Coca-Cola and Pepsi spend millions of dollars for their interests. Over the past five years, companies have been challenged and blocked 28 draft laws concerning the reduction of the volume of consumption of harmful foods, where soda is a leader.

The researchers noted that the interaction of these food business corporations with the health authorities is something like the situation with tobacco and alcohol distributor companies and the beneficiaries of their ‘charitable’ activities.

The cherry on the cake was the fact that the two leading organizations to combat diabetes in the US were in collusion with the aforementioned bulk food companies. It's to the point of absurdity: the producers of soda bribed the company, aimed at combating diabetes! But it is a product №1 in the list of causes of diabetes among young people. To what consequences can lead such a selfish attitude to the work, time will tell. Especially as Pepsi and Coca-Cola are certainly not the only dishonest players in the FMCG business, as there are still a number of companies-manufacturers and distributors of food products, which are lobbying for their own interests to preserve and even increase the volume of wholesale sales.
