The production, consumption, and distribution of organic food is going to reach a totally new level

An increase of production of organic products is among the key tasks for Danish FMCG business

Denmark, which is one of the world leaders in the consumption, distribution, and wholesale of organic products in 2020, is going to be the "100% organic country."

A small Scandinavian country is one of the world leaders in the consumption of organic products. History of Danish organic brand goes back 25 years, and the export of the organic produced in Denmark has grown by 200% since 2007.

With this purpose the Organic Action Plan was approved in 2015, providing for further development and increase in the production of organic products. Its goal is to double the area of their cultivation by 2020, compared with the available for 2007.

The plan consists of 67 points and affects both the active introduction of methods of agriculture, and financial assistance to producers of organic products. An equally important goal is to develop programs to stimulate the demand. To implement such an ambitious project an impressive sum of €53 million has been allocated in the same year.

In this case, the key challenge facing the government - bringing to implement the plan as many private landowners as possible. In order to interest farmers, they need to show the benefits of such a transition. Therefore, from the budget were allocated large sums of money to invest in research on organic production, to educate people about the program and progress in the society the ideas of the utility of the product.

Expanding into new organic food markets

The point of the plan relating to the distribution of organic products to foreign markets, the focus is on the collaboration with the embassies of other countries, as well as presentations at the thematic exhibitions and business forums. The Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture, and Fisheries will take an active part in them. One of the priorities of this area will be to work on simplifying the conditions of export of Danish organic foods in China. The fact that the inhabitants of this small Scandinavian country will reach the goal is undoubted. It's only a matter of time. In the period from 2014 to 2015 the number of applications to test the possibility of the conversion from traditional farming to innovative methods has increased by 328%, and, in fact, it was even before the introduction of the all-inclusive government initiatives.

To support the monitoring of the transformation, preservation and maintenance of organic farming, as well as to subsidize pilot projects, in the period from 2015 to 2018 it was spent an amount of €3.6 million. More attention is paid to special projects, financed from the agricultural funds. However, it plans to launch models of listed target subsidies and continued payment of an extra €161 a year per hectare for land plots in the first 2 years of conversion.

The world leader in the production, distribution, and consumption of organic products are the United States, but even in a record for these sales in 2015 part of it was only 5% while Denmark is intended to become "100% organic country" to 2020.

The developed economics of Denmark, a thoughtful and detailed action plan and active support of the population - are factors of future success and an example for those countries where various projects are rarely moving further than beautifully designed presentation.
